Thank you for taking the time to argue the case for why we need to up our quota of cultural friction. Join the resistance movement that reads a book on a train while the proles and kids have their heads lowered over their phone screens like the downtrodden workers in Fritz Lang's film "Metropolis". I enjoy my subscription programs as much as the next person, but I love my local cinema. I appreciate my Spotify but I love my record collection and my ukulele. I need my solitude evening walks away from this keyboard and screen. "Smoke and Convenience" to some is smoke and mirrors to me. For what are our phones really if not mirrors reflecting our relationship with uncertainty, productivity, loneliness and rest. Vertically impressive perhaps, but vapidly lacking in substance.
AND at the same time, the fantasy genre is having a hell of a hype cycle - book series where each one is 600-1000 pages. Being devoured and loved by reading fans across the globe.
